In 2015, MetroAlert released two free enhancements for Pennsylvania customers utilizing Visual Alert in patrol vehicles: Express Entry and Citation E-filing Web Service.
Express Entry enables users to take advantage of the bar codes on driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations to populate the Visual Alert database. It provides the gateway for officers in the field to quickly scan driver’s license and vehicle registration information into Visual Alert, which significantly speeds up the process of completing traffic citation and crash report forms. There is no need to have officers or clerical staff re-enter the scanned data into Visual Alert later at the agency’s headquarters, saving time and resources.
Citation E-filing Web Service enables users to transfer traffic citations directly to AOPC from the field, eliminating the necessity of hand-delivering citations to local Magisterial District Justice Offices. The Citation E-filing Web Service is now available to Visual Alert customers in Pennsylvania, upon AOPC approval and set-up.
In order to facilitate the Express Entry and Citation E-filing Web Service enhancements, MetroAlert has completed an additional interface to L-Tron Corporation’s 4910LR identity scanning equipment. The L-Tron 4910LR is a microphone-style area imaging scanner purpose-built for the patrol car environment. It enables users to quickly scan driver’s license and vehicle registration bar code data directly into the Visual Alert database.
The L-Tron 4910LR does require the purchase of a communications software interface in order for the scanner to operate with Visual Alert. Volume price discounts are available. Agencies wishing to purchase the L-Tron 4910LR can do so from MetroAlert or directly from L-Tron. A mobile printer is also required for completion of traffic citations in the field. Brother International Corporation offers several models of mobile thermal printers (bluetooth or wired) available through MetroAlert or directly from Brother.
Even if extreme weather has caused a power outage, customers can still contact MetroAlert. Our email and voice message systems will operate without electrical power.
